Make sure your company is safeguarded against HIPAA violations by answering these simple questions…

Is the broker you are dealing with HIPAA compliant? Have them provide you with a HIPAA compliance statement.
What happens to the obsolete x-ray film after your broker picks it up? Does it end up in a dumpster or landfill? Everything that goes to our refiner is shredded and recycled.
Is the broker dealing directly with a silver refiner and is the refiner HIPAA compliant? If so, have them provide you with a HIPAA compliance statement.
What happens to the film upon arrival at the refiner? Is the film secured (locked) upon arrival and not accessible on a loading dock or other area accessible to the public?
What safeguards have been put into place to insure PHI is protected? nbsp;Is your current silver vendor taking appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards? Have them detail the components of these three items.
Are there written policies & procedures addressing PHI? Ask for copies to review.
How are the written policies and procedures implemented? Is the education documented?
Are Certificates of Destruction available, if required?
